Why images get blurry when resized
When you shrink an image with the wrong algorithm, the browser simply drops pixels. The result is soft edges, jaggies and an overall mushy look. The fix is resampling — a smarter way of averaging neighboring pixels.
At PixelForge we use Lanczos resampling, which is the same quality method used by professional editors like Photoshop and Lightroom.
The right settings
For most web use, resizing to a target dimension (like 1200px wide) at 85% JPEG quality gives a near-perfect balance of size and sharpness. Always enable the sharpen pass after downscaling — it restores the crispness the resize removes.
For logos and screenshots, prefer PNG or WebP so text stays clean. Use the Resize + Compress tool to do both steps in one go.
Common mistakes to avoid
Don't upscale small images beyond 2x with standard tools — use our AI Upscaler instead, which reconstructs detail rather than stretching pixels.
Avoid saving every edit to the original file. Keep a master copy and export resized versions, so you never lock yourself out of higher quality.
